Prof. Suerbaum reappointed as director
Following the completion of the regular review by the Scientific Advisory Board for Public Health Microbiology at the Robert Koch Institute and external experts, the Federal Ministry of Health has reappointed Prof. Sebastian Suerbaum as head of the National Reference Center for Helicobacter pylori for the 2026-2028 term. “I am very pleased that we can continue our successful work as the National Reference Center for Helicobacter pylori. In view of the still rising number of stomach cancer cases caused by H. pylori worldwide, there remains a lot to be done in terms of diagnosing the infection, providing therapy advice, and conducting both fundamental and translational research,” says Prof. Suerbaum. The National Reference Center for Helicobacter pylori has been based at the Chair of Medical Microbiology and Hospital Hygiene at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute of LMU Munich since 2017.
