International expertise, scientific dialogue and personal exchange: from 5 to 7 August, the workshop ‘Biology of RNA viruses – Mechanisms, Evolution, Host Interactions’, hosted by Prof. Hanna-Mari Baldauf and Prof. Kei Sato, brought together researchers from LMU Munich and the University of Tokyo. The event took place at the Max von Pettenkofer Institute at LMU Munich as part of the strategic partnership between the two universities and was supported by the LMU Excellence Initiative, ASPIRE and two industry sponsors, Proteintech and Diasorin.

Participants from Germany and Japan contributed a variety of insights, perspectives and practical expertise. Presentations, discussions and joint working sessions provided opportunities for in-depth exchange and new ideas. Another key focus was on personal interaction and networking among the participants.

The workshop strengthened the scientific dialogue between the two universities and opened up new prospects for sustainable international collaboration.
